The nominations for this year’s Golden Globe Awards have been a hot topic on social media as they were revealed. Some of the favorite projects didn’t show up at all, while there were a few names that no one would have guessed. That’s the fun of the Globes, there’s always something surprising.
“Wicked: For Good” and “Jay Kelly” Big Blows
Both of these films have been all over the place throughout the season, so it was expected that they would make it to the Best Picture category. But both were left out at the last minute, which came as a surprise to many fans.
Sidney Sweeney’s “Christy” Ignored
Sweeney’s performance was strong, but the film didn’t do particularly well at the box office, which is probably why she didn’t get a nomination.
Bradley Cooper’s new project was not well-received
“Is This Thing On?” was expected to garner praise for Laura Dern’s performance at least, but the Golden Globes completely ignored the film.
“Superman” also missed out.
It was expected to make it into the box office achievement category, but it seems that now superhero films have become the norm, grossing over $1 billion.
Jacob Elordi’s big year, not one, but two nominations
In addition to his monster role in “Frankenstein,” his performance in the Australian miniseries “The Narrow Road to the Deep North” also convinced voters. This looks to be the strongest awards season of his career.
Eva Victor’s unexpected flight
The small independent film “Sorry, Baby” quietly earned a major nomination. It is truly being called the ‘indie surprise’ of the year.
Katherine Bigelow and the failure of “A House of Dynamite.”
The controversial political thriller did not receive a warm reception, perhaps because the votes were divided by differing opinions.
“The Gilded Age” was left behind again.
Despite a strong cast and a big budget, the series could not earn any nominations.
Amanda Seyfried’s double entry
Her performances this year, including the mini-series “Long Bright River”, were fortunately remembered by voters.
Helen Miron’s new rise in TV
Her role in “MobLand” brought her another nomination. Even the small screen is proving to be big for her.
Omini Musakou’s lack of “Sinners.”
Despite her excellent work in the film and other awards, she could not make it to the supporting category.
Podcast category big names left out
Without hot names like Joe Rogan and Ben Shapiro, this year’s list was pretty ‘simple’.
Blue Moon makes it into the Best Picture race
Ethan Hawke’s growing awards momentum may have benefited the film as well.
“KPop Demon Hunters” also surprises.
A nomination for Box Office Achievement, that too without a full theatrical release? Despite Netflix’s fan show, this is being considered a rather strange decision.
Amazon’s “The Girlfriend” suddenly rises.
The whole world was shocked when this little-known series and Robin Wright both wrapped up nominations.
The annual problem of mispronunciation
Marlon Wayans mispronounced several names, and the tradition continued.
