Peshawar: Three suicide bombers stormed the Federal Constabulary (FC) headquarters in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, killing three security personnel and all three attackers.
According to local media, the attack took place on Monday morning when a suicide bomber blew himself up at the main gate of the headquarters. The other two attackers were trying to enter, but FC personnel opened fire and killed both of them on the spot.
Peshawar’s Capital City Police Officer Mian Saeed Ahmed confirmed that three FC personnel posted at the gate were martyred in the blast.
Police Chief Saeed Ahmed told AP News that a large number of personnel were present in the open field inside the headquarters for a morning drill at that time. The attackers arrived on foot, and due to timely action, they could not reach the parade area; otherwise, the damage would have been much greater.
The FC headquarters is located in a densely populated area, and the area was cordoned off immediately after the incident.
Six civilians were also injured in the blast and were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital. According to hospital authorities, all the injured are out of danger. An emergency has been declared at Lady Reading and Khyber Teaching Hospital.
No group has yet claimed responsibility, but such attacks in recent months have often been attributed to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). It may be recalled that two weeks ago, a suicide attack also took place outside an Islamabad court, in which 12 people were killed.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the incident and praised the security forces’ timely action. He said that the attackers would be brought to justice as soon as possible and the intentions of the terrorists would be foiled.
President Asif Ali Zardari also strongly condemned the attack and expressed condolences to the families of the martyrs.
