Nowadays, there is only one discussion everywhere: Artificial Intelligence is now affecting not only the world of technology, but also our daily lives and jobs. Earlier, people thought that machines would replace only those working in factories, but now the situation has changed. Many jobs that involve sitting in offices and working on computers are also in danger.
Geoffrey Hinton, known as the “Godfather” of AI, recently said in an interview that AI will easily handle specific jobs in the future and that others are a little safer at the moment. He clearly said, Human intelligence is now in second place, because AI has become faster and better than humans in many cases.
Customer support agents
The work of call centres is no longer the same as before. Banks, mobile operators and online service companies are already using AI chatbots. In many places, more than half of the staff have been replaced. AI works 24 hours a day, does not take leave and does not get irritated. In such a situation, it is a cheaper and better option for companies.
Legal Assistants and Junior Lawyers
There was a time when legal research and case studies used to take days. Now, AI tools prepare contracts in seconds and also extract data from old cases immediately. The result is that the need for junior lawyers is decreasing.
Writers and Content Creators
Writing blogs, creating or editing articles, AI can do all this to a great extent now. This is a big challenge for freelance content creators because companies are now using AI to do the same work for less money.
Entry-level Jobs
Data entry, email response, and document verification were previously handled; these tasks were given to new graduates. Now, AI bots are doing it fast and without any mistakes. As a result, it is becoming difficult for freshers to get a job.
Software developers
GitHub Copilot and other AI tools are doing coding work faster. Now one can create a website or app even without learning programming. The role of developers may gradually be limited to debugging and fine-tuning.
Roles with administrative tasks
Earlier, many people were hired to respond to customer complaints. Now, an AI tool does this work in minutes. That is, a human and AI together can do the same job that many people used to do together.
Junior doctors and diagnostic specialists
Doctors have not been completely replaced yet, but AI is increasing their efficiency manifold. It is becoming possible to see more patients in less time. This may affect the recruitment of junior doctors.
Creative industry
Design, video editing, composing music, and AI are now doing all this faster and with new ideas. In the coming times, many creative jobs may also be in danger.
Analyst and Research Assistant
Data analysis, making reports, and summarising information, AI does all this in real time. Its capabilities are many times more than those of humans, which may reduce the need for people in these roles.
Prompt Engineers
Today, this is a new and in-demand role, but Hinton says that when AI starts writing better prompts on its own, then this job will also end.
Which jobs are safe right now?
Hinton believes that AI cannot easily reach those jobs in which human hands and physical presence are necessary. Jobs like plumber, electrician, construction worker, mechanic, welder, carpenter, security guard and therapist are safe right now. In these jobs, not only the mind but also physical skills are required, which AI cannot do right now.
What should be done next?
If AI can easily do your work, then changing skills is the best way. Learn skills that require creativity, human understanding and physical interaction.
Hinton says that this change will not happen suddenly, but gradually. But those who prepare in time will be ahead of the curve in this change.
