Outage on Shopify, on the busiest online shopping day of Cyber Monday, has left thousands of users and many small businesses in a difficult situation. While people in the US were trying to take advantage of the year’s biggest online sale, login issues began to emerge on the platform.
According to outage-tracking website Down Detector, the highest number of complaints was reported around 11 am, when store owners and customers were unable to access their accounts. Many businesses that rely heavily on daily sales were seen expressing their concerns on social media.
Shopify’s support team wrote in a post:
“We are aware of an admin issue that is affecting certain stores, and are working to resolve it.”
The issue came at a time when traffic was already heavy due to Cyber Monday. After Black Friday sales, online shopping for Cyber Monday was expected to increase this year, especially with AI-based shopping tools.
When Did The Login Issue Start?
The first reports emerged around 9:08 am ET / 2:08 pm GMT, when thousands of store owners reported being unable to log in to their admin panels. According to some users, the dashboard was not loading, while others were receiving error messages.
Shopify released a brief statement on its status page and on X, stating that its technical staff is working to identify the root of the problem. While they did not specify the exact cause of the outage, the company assured that the technical team is working to resolve the issue quickly.
Small Business Concern
Most small businesses offer additional discounts, new products, and special deals on Cyber Monday. In such a situation, the shutdown of a large platform like Shopify could be a significant loss for them. Some stores said they were unable to check their orders, while others reported problems accessing the payment section.
Business users said that even a loss of 2 to 3 hours on Cyber Monday could affect revenue for the entire month.
Has Shopify Fixed the Problem?
According to the latest reports, the Shopify team was still working on the problem. Users were advised to check the status page regularly for the latest information.
As online shopping continues to grow, large platforms will also need to improve their scaling capabilities to avoid technical bottlenecks during busy days.
