Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif
This digital system makes everything clear and open. Last year, corruption caused a loss of Rs23 billion, but now, every rupee will go to those who genuinely need it. We are dedicated to ending long lines and poor management.
Rana Tanveer Hussain, Minister for Industries
After receiving the green light, we launched this package in just 20 days. Our teams worked hard to ensure that every family received the help they needed.
Amina Khan, Lahore Resident (BISP Recipient)
Registering via SMS was simple. This aid means I can buy essentials without borrowing money.
The Significance of the 8070 Ramazan Package
Pakistan’s inflation rate is currently at 23%, lower than the high of 38% in 2024, but it’s still putting pressure on families as Ramazan approaches. The new 8070 package considers what went wrong in previous relief efforts, where handing out aid manually caused problems like leaks and crowded stores.
The Prime Minister has also mentioned plans to privatize the Utility Stores Corporation (USC) and shut down other money-losing organizations to reduce public waste.
Switching to digital methods fits Pakistan’s goal of getting more people involved in the financial system, as the number of mobile wallet users has jumped to 83 million since 2020.
Still, there are issues in rural areas, where 36% of people don’t have internet access, according to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority.
- Anti-Corruption Measures: PM Shehbaz’s Rs23 billion recovery shows new attempts to fight corruption. The courts are focusing on Rs500 billion worth of unresolved embezzlement cases.
- Security Concerns: The Prime Minister strongly criticized the recent acts of terrorism, particularly the assault on Darul Uloom Haqqania, and called for cooperation among provinces to tackle these dangers.
- Social Solidarity: President Asif Zardari emphasized the importance of giving during Ramazan, saying, “This is a time to support those in need. We should make sure that everyone has enough to eat.”
The 8070 Ramazan Relief Package, which focuses on efficiency and inclusion, might pave the way for future welfare initiatives. Although the shift to digital solutions tackles previous issues, specialists call for better internet access and local awareness efforts to connect with underprivileged groups.
